Nitix - Autonomic Linux-based Operating System

The Net Integrator operating system (OS), Nitix, is an Autonomic Linux-based OS that provides a complete network infrastructure in a high performance, intelligent, self-maintaining design making networking easy.

Nitix is a 16MB solid state operating system built on a standard Linux kernel that is practically self-aware, self-tuning and self-healing. What makes Nitix different than all other operating systems on the market is that its advanced autonomic functionality fundamentally reduces the deployment costs and complexities of IT infrastructure.

The advanced autonomic functionality in Nitix-powered server solutions provides a complete and clearly superior IT alternative to Microsoft for businesses with 20 to 500 users. Core IT infrastructure is delivered by a virtually self-maintaining, self-tuning and self-healing autonomic Linux-based operating system that replaces numerous servers, routers, firewalls and backup systems giving small and medium-sized businesses access to enterprise class IT capabilities at a cost and complexity level that they can afford and manage without a large IT management investment.

For example, Nitix-powered server solutions deliver the following services:

  • File and print services for Windows, Apple and UNIX clients
  • Internet connectivity and routing
  • Self-configuring state-of-the-art firewall
  • Self-configuring and self maintaining VPN and remote access services
  • WWW services
  • Email services (POP/IMAP/SMTP)
  • MS Exchange replacement - self-configuring groupware server with Outlook, Evolution or Web front end
  • SQL database
  • Self-configuring/auto-populating LDAP, DNS, DHCP servers
  • Automatic, unattended, continuous backup system
  • Integrated auto-updating anti-virus system
  • Web content filtering system
  • Intelligent traffic management over redundant Internet connections

Once deployed, a Nitix-powered server solution requires minimal upkeep. Its operating system can take care of itself:

  • The system "knows itself" - it possesses a system identity and it understands what is going on. On a network level, it has detailed knowledge of its surroundings.
  • A Nitix-powered server can configure and reconfigure itself under varying, and even unpredictable conditions. System configuration or "setup" occurs automatically, as well as dynamic adjustments to that configuration to best handle changing environments.
  • The Nitix O/S is self-healing - it is able to recover from routine and extraordinary events that might cause some of its subsystems to malfunction or crash. It is often able to discover problems or potential problems, then find a way to fix them in order to keep functioning smoothly.
  • A Nitix-powered server is an expert in self-protection. It will identify and protect itself against various types of network attacks to maintain overall system security and integrity. System security is autonomous and self configuring.
  • Nitix-powered servers are designed to be a high availability system. The system can even be abruptly powered down under any load, only to continue without missing a beat two minutes after a power-up. It can be recovered from any disaster into a fully functional state in about two minutes, under any conditions. It is also capable of delivering redundant Internet and VPN connectivity.
